FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

2000-2001 CLUB EXECUTIVE
President: Jeff Kempton <--------------->Treasurer: AnnMarie Dorey
Vice-Pres: Tom Harmes <--------------->Secretary: Cheryl Kempton
Director: Kevin MacDonald

I hope that everyone enjoyed the Holidays, and that for a lucky few of you, Santa put something car-related under the tree. Although I didn't get anything specific for my "toys", I guess that I should consider it a gift in itself that Cheryl puts up with my obsession with old cars. I'll be busy enough over the remainder of this winter just installing all the new trinkets that I bought late last year anyway. And, I hope to have plenty more Christmases ahead to help support my hobby, as I don't expect to outgrow it in the future. As the slogan on the rear of a buddy's race car trailer warns, "Inside this box lies a contagious disease for which there is no cure"! That sums up my feelings of this hobby of ours. If it's a disease, I don't want a cure!

We have two upcoming club events for you to mark on your social calendar. The first is a bowling night on January 18th at the Sackville Superbowl, 300 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, NS. A brief club meeting is planned to start at 7:15PM there, followed by the start of bowling at 8PM. Members of other clubs as well as guests are welcome, and if possible please call Cheryl Kempton at 865-3012 by Wednesday, Jan. 15, and confirm if you plan to attend, as we need to reserve the appropriate number of lanes. The cost is $5.00 for three strings of bowling, including shoe rental.

On February 22nd we will be having our annual club Birthday Party, graciously hosted this year by Rick Merrill and Sharon Flemming at their home in Halifax (24 Kingfisher Crescent) It starts at 8PM until ?? and will be a pot-luck, byob event. A brief club meeting will be held there at some point in the evening as well. Call Rick or Sharon at 457-3272 for more information, and to co-ordinate what dish you might bring for the snacks.

As it is the start of the New Year, that means that memberships are due. They are still only $20/year, a rate that has remained unchanged for 20 years now, and an amount that is actually lower than when the club was first formed in 1981. How many fees can you say that about? To keep renewals from dragging out all year, like occasionally in years past, we ask that you mail it in to the club address at the top of the page or give it to Ann Marie Dorey or Jeff Kempton at one of the upcoming club events. Either way, please try to take care of it over the next two months. Thanks for your co-operation and your continued support of the club.

I am saddened to report the recent passing of two former members of our club. Gerry Russell of Sydney passed away in late November just after the Fall newsletter was mailed, and Larry Rhynold of Halifax passed away this week. On behalf of the club I would like to extend our condolences to their families and friends.
