Classic Feature - 1955 3100 pickup of Rod & Brenda Macphee
by Gary Porter

Looking at the latest roster, you will see that Rod and Brenda are new members to the club. However, they are actually second timers. Rod and Brenda originally joined the club back in 1990 when they owned a 1955 Bel Air two door sedan. Over time, interests and priorities changed and the 55 was sold. Even though the 55 was gone, Rod kept the vision of that Ferrari inspired grill in his head.

Fast forward to 2005. Rod decided that it was time to become a Classic owner once again, but this time wanted something different choosing a stock pickup. Last summer, he and a few friends went south in search of a suitable truck, but returned empty handed. Not giving up, he continued his search on the internet which netted him the truck pictured above.

Built in Kansas City, this 3100 spent most of its life in Oklahoma. Rod purchased it from a gentleman in Indiana and had it shipped here in time for the Classic Chevy weekend last fall. The truck is powered by the stock 235 six with four speed transmission and also has a radio and chrome visor. In addition, the pickup has chrome bumpers, grill and headlight bezels, which are often painted on this type of vehicle.

While some people are content to just wash, wax and drive their vehicles, Rod falls into the group who are always improving or upgrading to make their car (or truck) better. Brenda tells me Rod has the motor and transmission out to do some cleaning and detailing. Judging by the job he did on his Bel Air, this 3100 pickup should be a real head turner when Rod gets it back together.
